LOL! I feel your pain, Bill, I really do! Windows is a goddamn mess. I gave my neighbor an old Thinkpad in exchange for work he's doing for me, and when I gave it to him, I had put Ubuntu on it. He liked it alright, but the sound crapped out on him after a few days and wouldn't start working again. Driver problems. I tried to get it working again, to no avail. Finally I suggested Windows 98. (the machine was much to slow for XP) I installed the system and got all his hardware working. Now it's the Internet that isn't working properly. He hated Windows so much he wanted me to put Ubuntu back on. I just gave him the disc and told him to have at it. He got it installed perfectly and brought it back to me to get his Internet working again, which took me all of twenty minutes. This is a complete and utter novice to computers, and he managed to install his computer system near perfectly almost by himself. I had to help him with partitioning.

Ubunto didn't install on a laptop of mine accept in the disk-less state. I like using it and found it easy to use but Freebsd 6.3 installs on everything. The 7.0 version I can't say the same for but I like it to.

For a family PC Microsoft doesn't offer a whole lot and your left with nothing after you install it compared to a productive Desktop OS like Freebsd.
