Bolivian President Evo Morales has won his gamble to call a referendum on his leftist policies, winning nearly two thirds of the vote in his divided country.
Eight of Bolivia's nine regional governors were also seeking re-election, and two of the Presidents political enemies were defeated.
''This is an historic day for Bolivia, thanks to voters support for improving Bolivian democracy'' Morales told supporters.

Bolivian President Evo Morales has won his gamble to call a referendum on his leftist policies, winning nearly two thirds of the vote in his divided country.
Naturally.
His policies are solidly rooted in socialism; which is just another way of saying that his policies are in the specific direction of being beneficial to the People moreso than they are to the Corporate State
In any country where the populace has not been brainwashed to vote against their own best interests, the politics of socialism will win out when the People's voice is heard.
Every time.

Many a true word was spoken in jest.
Disgusting, Paul.
If you wanna see people who are threatened by political change, then pick up a paper and read about the conflict going on in Georgia right now.

Disgusting, Paul.
Are you suggesting its beyond the realms of reality.
Scenario: Chavez keeps buying weapons systems off Russia.
ie, submarines, missile systems.
Chavez and the Russians have signed an energy pact.
Chavez keeps trying Washingtons patients, who knows.

At this stage in the game, absolutely.
Scenario: Chavez keeps buying weapons systems off Russia.
ie, submarines, missile systems.
Chavez keeps trying Washingtons patients, who knows.
True, but outside of him invading a sovereign nation because HE fears true democracy (a likely possibility, to say the least) - he's got nothing to worry about. On that note, we don't invade countries that hold LEGITIMATE elections.
Chavez and the Russians have signed an energy pact.
Of course, they have - they're birds of a feather. They're both supposedly "for the people", yet their people are fucking starving to death.
Unbelievably, you've managed to, once again, liken us to monsters. Thanks.

Correct - it was Sedan (who said it jokingly), and you responded with, "Many a true word was spoken in jest."
To be honest, you're both guilty of doing it (to a degree).

You're fully entitled to your opinion, no matter how removed from reality or rationality it is, Paul. I fully accept that. I know you can. :)

....outside of him (Chavez) invading a sovereign nation because HE fears true democracy (a likely possibility, to say the least) - he's got nothing to worry about.
Prety much the opposite of the truth.
He is in danger of being either overthrown or assassinated by the political cabal running this coutry, because the RightWing here truly fears and despises seeeing democracy and power-to-the-people flower in other nations.
On that note, we don't invade countries that hold LEGITIMATE elections.
Wow.
It is incredible that there are Americans who believe that.
(I guess you never heard of this government's takeover/coup/overthrow of the government in Hawaii....or Guatemala.....or Chile.......or Grenada.........)
American is not hated by other third world countries because "they're jealous of us" or because we are about "spreading democracy", or because we "value freedom" or because we "uphold human rights".
We are hated because our far Right Government so often works to deny those very things --like democracy and freedom and human rights-- to the people in third world countries whose resources are coveted by our multinational Corporations.
That hatred we have sown is now coming back to this country in the form of terrorism.

No more clearly seen than in the Muslim World at present.
That said, hopefully the days of right wing dictators using death squads to suppress they're people, are becoming a thing of the past.

This is your first sentence, followed by:
He (Chavez) is in danger of being either overthrown or assassinated by the political cabal running this coutry, because the RightWing here truly fears and despises seeeing democracy and power-to-the-people flower in other nations.
There's your "wow", pal. You think he's a fan of giving "power-to-the-people"??? You're beyond deluded.
American is not hated by other third world countries because "they're jealous of us" or because we are about "spreading democracy", or because we "value freedom" or because we "uphold human rights".
Of course, that's not why they hate us.
We are hated because our far Right Government so often works to deny those very things --like democracy and freedom and human rights-- to the people in third world countries whose resources are coveted by our multinational Corporations.
That hatred we have sown is now coming back to this country in the form of terrorism.
A partial truth, no doubt.
