View Full Version : Making a linked image smaller

I don't want anybody to spend too much time on it, but I'd love to know how to down-size and internet image prior to posting it on the boards.
I love to post images in support of a given line of conversation or humor, and cutting-n-pasting the link to that image (using the yellow square icon http://www.allforums.net/images/editor/insertimage.gifabove) always works great.
Occasionally though, the linked image turns out to be ENORMOUS, and unwieldy.
Any ideas (that aren't too involved or complicated)?
Thanks in advance.

I think hosting sites like ImageShack usually have a resizing feature. Could be wrong.

As far as I know, if you post an image using the insert image function or use the img codes, even though you see the image when you open the post, this board is not the host, it's only hot linking you to the original host.
Your only option is to download it to your computer, re-size it, I like this one, http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Microsoft-Image-Resizer.shtml by Microsoft.
Then like Vilepagan said, upload it to image shack or photobucket, which also has the thumbnail option.
Sounds like a lot of trouble; don't it?:type:

I use imageshack to resize, and saving it to my computer first isn't necessary.

Thanks for making me look at my photobucket account a bit closer and it does have that feature.

Sidewinder has it. You're stuck with the size of the image you're linking. One thing you could do is hit google and look for all images with the same topic or filename. Many times you'll find people have done the work for you. Or you could use imageshack.us. It's pretty easy, and I think there are even browser plug-ins you could download to make the work easier. That takes a bit of set-up, but the rewards are often worth it.
I use the Firefox search tool bar to search isoHunt for good torrents, then use Firefox's built-in functionality to open up utorrent to download the torrent. The end result is that I can start downloading virtually anything I want that's movies, music, computer programs in seconds, where it would take many people at least five minutes. Don't be put off by the half hour or hour it could take to set up a good permanent solution to a problem, the reward is instant gratification for all subsequent times. I could probably show you how to do that particular problem in the time it took to write this, but I think you'd be better off finding it yourself.
