So says Benazir Buttos widow.
Asif Ali Zardari said in a BBC interview that the Taleban should be put on the list of banned organisations.
''It is an insurgency'', he said, ''and an idealogical war. It is our country and we will defend it''.
I cant believe the Taleban arent banned in Pakistan.

Their is a large minority that is supporting the Taliban. They will not be pleased to see it banned, in fact they would like to have it become the government. I don't think they are the majority now, but they have significant support. If the government comes down on them to much, they may get some sympathy if the crackdown is violent, such as attacking the tribal areas. That has an almost government in a government, and is a strong Taliban area.

I reminded it, a few months ago, Russia and China agreed setting the demarcation line, and Russia withdrew their forces from the border.
I thought that odd because there aren't reason to withdraw for Russia. But I understand it, the agreement is for invasion to Georgia. This conflict is prepared with long term.

It's pretty hard to eradicate al-Qaeda without taking this step.
But ultimately, even if al-Qaeda is vanquished, the Pakistani Taleban will remain -- and at some future point a political reconciliation with them will be in order.

No doubt some are looking to squeeze them from both the Afghan and Pakistani sides of the border.
Tho, the opportunity of eliminating AQ totally, passed some time ago.

I hate the Taliban -- but they live there, and it's up to the countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan to reach an eventual understanding with them.

Sure, I think every decent minded westerner hates the Taliban, and AQ for that matter.
I have a few problems with the issue tho.
I dont see any evidence that AQ have a major say in Taliban affairs, it looks more like they were given a free hand by the Taliban Government.
AQs leadership were cornered in Tora Bora then the attention was turned to Saddam in Iraq.
The Bush Admin, tho they said the 'war on terror' was against those who harbour 'terrorists', and the Taliban sure fit that bill, your right, unbelievably, they did have considerable support in certain regions of Afghanistan.
As for the war against their assets, I think the US Authorities are in a better position to fight that than any other nation.
Tho as long as there are countries and regions were they can operate without fear of US military, its a bit of a waste of time.

Not only they are not banned but they actually have been created and helped mostly by Pakistani's secret services - following american directions during the Reagan gvt.
