View Full Version : Thompson's Speech

"I've experienced John's character firsthand. In 1993, when I was thinking of running for the Senate, I went to John for advice. He convinced me I could help make a difference for our country. I won that election, and with Republican control of Congress, we reformed welfare. We balanced the budget. And we began rebuilding our military.
What I remember most about those years is sitting next to John on the Senate floor as he led battle after battle to change the acrimonious, pork-barreling, self-serving ways of Washington.
The Senate has always had more than its share of smooth talkers.
And big talkers.
It still has.
But while others were talking reform, John McCain led the effort to make reform happen — always pressing, always moving for what he believed was right and necessary to restore the people's faith in their government."

Yeah.....lotta detail, there, Fred!!
Pretty amazing how a "conservative"-crowd will swallow hook, line, sinker....and, half-o'-the-boat.....when someone's speechifyin', to them....and, can only manage broad-generalizations.
Thompson couldn't even manage to list 2-or-3 o' those battles, in which McCain was involved???

It was a good speech, and clearly did its job judging by your reaction. The useful idiots are out in full force with their cut and paste keys warmed up!

Yeah.....lotta detail, there, Fred!!
Each speech at a convention has a specific purpose.
It wasn't Thompsons role to explain McCain's vision. It was his role to hopefully help remind you of the man behind that vision.
I can understand your confusion though.
He should have made that point clearer when he said, "It's not my role tonight to explain that vision. It's my role is to hopefully help remind you of the man behind the vision,"
Good job listening there Sham.

He made a great simple point that some on the left don't seem to understand.
"Now, our opponents tell us not to worry about their tax increases. They tell you they're not going to tax your family. (Laughter.) No, they're just going to tax "businesses." So, unless you buy something from a business, like groceries or clothes or gasoline -- (laughter) -- or unless you get a paycheck from a business, a big business or a small business, don't worry, it's not going to affect you!"

Then he said regarding the taxation of one part of society and not the other: "WE are not going to take water from your side of the bucket, we are going to take water from the other side of the bucket.":lolhit:

I guess I missed all o' those McCain-battles that Big Fred was referring-to.
Which ones did you hear him referring-to??
2-or-3 would be fine.

I wasn't expecting that. I was expecting Big Fred to list some o' those battles....you know...to back-up his premise.

How about you give us a list of all the times Barry has backed up anything he claims.

Perhaps you can tell me how McCain plans to pay for all of Bush's spending. Taxes need to be raised.

Yep. I just saw a McCain ad and they dropped the "tax and spend" line when describing Obama. Taxing and spending is a lot better than just spending.

What I don't understand is how cutting taxes without cutting spending can be seriously considered a tax cut. It's nothing more than a deferred tax hike. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in Candyland.

Ya, and everyone here agrees how stupid it was to cut taxes and increase spending. It is a stupid thing to do and one of the things I dont like about Bush. The tax cut part, I liked, the extra spending, I hate.
But if you thik I am for spending if there is a tax increase to go along with it you are wrong. I want to cut taxes furthere and cut as much spending as possible.
