This is just a suggestion to the mods on here. With all the heated debate between Obama, McCain, and Palin... it really takes away from Basic political discussion. I wanted to start a thread on racial issues, since I'm in the class right now, and since it really had nothing to do with a politician, it was pretty far down and out of site, hurting the likeliness of possible reading and feedback.

My suggestion is to have a Basic Political Forum where you can discuss broader things that have nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats... such as Education in general (not someone's education plan), Racial issues (not who is racist), taxes in general (not someone's tax plan) etc...

What do you think?

I like the idea.

I even suggested it, many months ago.
(Well sort of. I suggested a separate, "I hate GW Bush and the USA" forum, as a sub-thread to Politics. A place to move all the hateful, bileous cut-n-paste jobs into.)

Here's the problem.
Your new forum would be instantly invaded and infected by the same people who inject the usual tired, predictable partisan-politics into every other thread.
(I'm not naming names, but you know the ignorant, smirking, sanctimonious, monomaniacal, one-hand-on-the-keyboard-only jackasses I'm talking about.)

Each and every thread would start out well-intentioned, and in one or two postings, would be full of Sarah Palin bashing, Obama trashing, Biden thrashing, and McCain slashing.

Good idea.
Not going to work around here though.

I think if the separation is there, it would at least cut it down.

People are lazy. If it's one more click to go somewhere, they won't do it. And if they do infiltrate with "partisan politics", we can say "take that crap to the other forum"...

right now we don't have the right to say "stop posting"...

I haven't talked with the other mods, so don't take this as anything official, but I foresee another round of Bush Bashing Thread II: Obama Edition et al.

But we'll see. If things die down more with Palin, as people get used to her, it may not even be necessary.

I think in two months we won't really need it anymore. Or maybe three, depending on who wins.
