Came across this video on France 24. Shows the Taliban are very capable.

I think to do that there would be one less French woman and cameraman in the world.
Oui.

The taliban have some well experienced fighters. Some have been fighting for almost 20 years, and anyone still alive of fighting for that time are capable, although not as well equipped as the U.S. There are also fighters who are 14 year olds just starting. I'm sure they put there best in the film.

?!?

What do you see as being wrong with that??

Don't you WANT to hear reports on what they're doing?!?!?

After all, the reporter wasn't firing a missile launcher.

No I dont want to hear reports on what they are doing I want anyone who can get that close to them to carry a GPS for a Tomahawk strike.

Wouldn't it be awesome to push THAT button if you had the opportunity??? Now, that video - OTOH - is what I'd wanna see on the Internet.

Very selfish of the reporter not to give away her location.
Just think, she could die in the American cause

She doesn't have to die, she could send out a signal then tell the boys she has to use the ladies room.

Yeah sure, then go sign on for welfare in Paris, hide the rest of her life.

I watched the video and I wasn't all that impressed...seemed almost comical actually, like these guys were getting together for their Regular Friday night raid or something...hopped in their pick-up trucks and drove to the locxal checkpoint for some shootin' fun...

Not overly professional no. Tho well armed considering.
Ya know, I cant decide whether these guys who post here are real are what. Really.

That is because these people are a joke. The only reason they are still around is because we will not use all the power at our disposal to eliminate them once and for all.

Firstly, I believe we were talking about the French journalists, tho I dont think your advocating eliminating them.
So it must be the Taliban your referring to.
Using all the power at Americas disposal, hmm. The US has to deal with public opinion, the Taliban dont, the
main reason a military victory has a very slim chance of success.

let's keep in mind people, that afghanis have been repelling outsiders for a very long time. what makes america and other coalition forces think they can win too? afghans seem to be very patient. it doesn't matter if they are taliban, whatever. they know their land, how to use it, and watch and wait. afghanistan doesn't seem to have the capability to be a "rich" country. what do they even have to sell to the outside world other than wool, rugs, and heroin? guns and bombs?

I disagree. No country has ever won an occupation war, especially in guerilla conditions like in Afghanistan. USSR didn't have public opinion problems and they lost againt the same people.

We won an occupation war in the western US against guerillas.

Thats true, no country has ever won an war of occupation, the Afghans being very patient and capable, could drag this out for years or even decades.

Difficult to judge 'victory' in such a situation.

Because, and make no mistake about it, we're the ONLY reason they won last time. You know, the only time that it ever really mattered.

Noooo, they lost against us. Namely, because of this man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Wilson_(politician)

Are you suggesting the Russians lost in Afghanistan because of US involvement ?
Hope its not one of those old joke types:

The UK Commander in Helmand province has said Britain should not expect a ''decisive military victory'' in
Afghanistan.
Brigadeer Mark Carelton-Smith told the Sunday Times the aim of the mission was to ensure the Afghan Army
was able to manage the country on its own.

Yes, Paul. Look it up. It's an ABSOLUTE FACT, and this one, I'm positive on. You will NOT prove me wrong, but feel free to try if our good deeds just so happen to offend your delicate European sensibilities.

We spent roughly a billion dollars arming and training the Afghanis with SOVIET weapons so they could defeat the Russians. Do you honestly think they could've taken out Hind Helicopters with Enfield rifles, heroin, and stones?

Paul, look up Charlie Wilson, and the CIA's involvement in that conflict. Operation Cyclone.

Yes we all know the CIA was financing and arming the Mujahideen, its an odd irony that Afghanistan has came full circle and the Yanks have taken the place of the Soviets.

I agree 100%.

But then, the last thing the ConservaFascists in Washington want to do is eliminate the terrorists, or the (minor) threat they pose.

To do so would be to kill their own golden goose; the one that grants them the excuse to spend trillions on our so-called "defense".

The phony assed boogeyman of the "Red Menace" died. The ConservaFascists went to a lot of trouble to invent the successive one (the "evil doer tuurrurists!").

They are not about to allow this current boogeyman to pass away on them.

Yeah, and just like the Soviets, we're quite fond of stacking the Afghani people in piles and running them over with our tanks. On that note, do you intentionally come here to rub people the wrong way, or is it merely a byproduct of your genetics?

What the fuck is your problem, "mac"?

I come here to debate, dont like it, take a hike ok.

Now that your superiority complex has got its fix,

Whats the difference between the US invading Afghanistan and the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan ?

Debate? Surely, you jest. Try insinuate and bash. That said, I just might "take a hike". I'm really not liking it much here as of late.

Praetorian,

That was one of the worst posts I have ever read at any site. I became angry when Evakian posted what he did about my daughter but even that pales beside what you just posted to Paul. Paul and I PMd a few times about his sister's cancer and I kept her in my daily prayers for about a year. I still remember when he sent me an email telling me she had passed.

What kind of person tells someone he hopes he dies just like his sister did knowing she died after fighting cancer for years.

You owe Paul and every poster at All Forums an apology and then maybe you should do what you said and take a long hiatus from posting. You have obviously gone off the deep end.

Paul, if Praetorian doesn't offer you an apology please accept mine. There is absolutely no excuse for what he posted and I am embarrassed to be associated with him even in an internet setting.

I think everyone should publicly repudiate what Praetorian posted because to not do so implicitly condones it.

I have to admit, for whatever reason, I was unaware that Paul lost his sister. Assuming Prae was, that was totally out of bounds.

Lionel, since he said he hoped Paul died the same way his sister did it is obvious he knew she had died. I know Prae can be acerbic at times but I never thought he would be downright cruel.

I was unaware of it as well. Paul, you have my condolences. Prae will be dealt with.

Despite Frogger's suggestion that a failure to publicly condemn someone for their actions implies support for their actions, I would point out that this mess began because someone wanted to say something nasty to, or about, someone else. I don't think it's necessary, or desirable to do that.

paulc

To be honest, I didn't publicise my sisters death, tho a few posters were aware of it.

Her name was Roisin, she passed away after a long illness on 8th July.

To be honest, I went to bed last nite with the intention of pulling the plug at AF today, Ive been persuaded to stay for awhile at least, but to be honest, it isnt really worth it if the conversation and debate sink to this sort of level.

Paul.

It really was worse, Havok because Prae knew that Paul's sister had died. He told Paul to die in the same way his sister did. I hope he was drunk when he said it because if wasn't his behavior was totally inexcusable.
