That's always the assumption, and yet I can't help but think, based on some of what I've seen growing up in a union town and some of the articles I've seen on what factories were like in the 60s and 70s, that there are a fair number of racists who because of their union ties, have been voting democrat for quite a while.

A lot of these things "everybody knows is true" aren't.

Where I am from, being a Democrat absolutely does NOT mean, in any way, that you are a "liberal". Virtually every human being, Democrat OR Republican, in this town that I have ever known leans at least to some degree to the right. There are definitely people here who vote Democratic. I've met them and talked to them. There are even some who before the election openly stated they'd be voting for ANYONE besides a Republican, even if it meant voting for Obama. But they are NOT "liberals" in any sense of the word.......

........."liberals" here (at least the ones who let it slip that they are liberal) are about as common as Buddhist monks.

I get that your comment is meant to be outrageous which would in turn make mine outrageous
as well. The only problem with yours is that it has no basis. The case can very easily be made
that Bush (with the help of his Republican voters) helped push the country closer to destruction
and thus Republicans are more likely to be called a "traitor". However, I don't think the case is
strong enough for the GOP in general to really use such a term, though it certainly applies to Bush
himself. As for "commie" I don't see how that associates with either side.

It's such a buzzword, flung around carelessly, unfairly branded on the person even if it isn't warranted. Ask Jesse James and Al Sharpton about the tactic, it works to a tee.

Some folks are racists... but believe you me.. there are tons of racists in this country who aren't white, even though the opposite has been labeled as the status quo.
